Chemical properties of zinc iodide

Zinc iodide, white or almost white granular or powder. No smell. Have spicy salt taste. Has the water absorbability. When exposed to air and light, can escape the iodine and brown. 1 g soluble in 0.3 ml water, 0.2 ml and 2 ml water glycerine. Soluble in ethanol and aether. The aqueous solution of litmus acidic, pH5. Relative density (d? 25) 4.74. Melting point of about 446 ℃. Boiling point is about 625 ℃ (decomposition). Corrosive.
Compound starch iodine reagent to determine nitrite, free chlorine and other oxidants.
Zinc iodide available metal zinc and I2 heating reaction directly, or barium iodide and zinc sulfate double decomposition reaction, l filter to barium sulfate precipitation, evaporation filtrate the crystallization. Or I2 ether solution in zinc exists in return, after decompression in addition to the ether in preparation of 400 degrees of sublimation.
